Why I write.

I write because I have to. I write for only school work. Through this half a year in this class I would have to say that I don't really like to write for fun, I think of writing as a source for working not really fun. I believe that writting is very useful to the learning process and that a lot of people do enjoy to write just for the fun of it. Over time though I have found out that I don't like to, I just write to get the job done then try to finish with as few words as possible. And that is why I write.

Reading Response 6: Mocking Jay

Mocking Jay is the third book in the series of The Hunger Games. So far in the book the main character Catniss is going back to her district, district 12. In the second book Catching Fire her district gets attacked by the capital and she was going back to see the damage and find out if anyone else was left. She then began going to district 13.
"Some walks you have to take alone."
The quote is true to the meaning some things you must take alone to find out for yourself. Lastly I really like the series and the book.

Reading Response 5: The Invention of Hugo Cabret

This book is about a young orphan boy named Hugo. Hugo is homeless and lives in a Paris bus station. The only thing he has is a broken automaton that his father left him. I started to read the book because last year I watched the movie and it was good then I found out there was a book and decided to start reading it. I just started the book recently though.
"If you loose your purpose... its like you're broken." I think that this quote from Hugo is very true. If you don't have a purpose then its hard to have a reason to do anything. So far the book is very good.

Article 1 Response

After reading "Is Google Making Us Stupid" I feel that a lot of what the author says is true.
"They found that people using the sites exhibited “a form of skimming activity,” hopping from one source to another and rarely returning to any source they’d already visited."
I found that I do the same thing, and I also started to skim the article as soon as I started reading. The article also mentions how reading longer articles on the web is hard and is easy to loose concentration, while reading the article I agree completely. I also feel myself that Google makes us smarter as a group with internet access, but slower without electricity. Google is revolutionary to the internet and forever changed the human race accordingly. I think that the way people use Google makes them dumb but if people just use common scense along with Google people can adapt to use the internet in a smarter way.

Reading Response 3: The Shadow Over Innsmouth

The Shadow Over Innsmouth is about a man that travels to a place to visit his family, but along the way discovers a small fishing village. He asks the local people  in the nearby town about it and finds that the locals are afraid of the area, because people would go there and never come back. I finished reading when the main character is on the bus to Innsmouth.
In case you have never heard of the book; it is an older book written by H.P Lovecraft. It is a horror style book just like most of the writtings from Lovecraft. I like the book so far, and it is short.
Thus I began my systematic though half-bewildered tour of Innsmouth's narrow, shadow-blighted ways. Crossing the bridge and turning toward the roar of the lower falls, I passed close to the Marsh refinery, which seemed to be oddly free from the noise of industry. The building stood on the steep river bluff near a bridge and an open confluence of streets which I took to be the earliest civic center, displaced after the Revolution by the present Town Square.

Reading Response 2: Ashfall

I just finished reading the book and it was really good. The main character Alex fights through the ash from the erupting volcano to get to his family. His journey takes longer than he expected and ends up having to fight snow and the cold. During his time trying to get to his family Alex meets a lot of different people, some just want food while others were ready to kill to get it. Alex did meet a couple of people that want to help and one person follows and helps Alex get to where he wants to be after a lot of unfortunate events.

The book talks about a lot of things but one thing that sticks out the most for me is how everyone doesn't know what they have until its gone. The main character talks about how he used to fight with his mom about stupid stuff and now after everything is gone all he wishes to say he's sorry. Another thing is how food is taken for granted in America. Once the volcano goes off and everyone starts to starve the people soon realize how lucky they were.
After reading the book I would recommend it to others to read. It is very entertaining and sad, but has a great story.

My Inspiration

I receive most of my inspiration from reading. I enjoy reading and when I do it inspires me to write something for myself. Seeing others ideas helps me to think about what to write about. The only bad part about it is that I procrastinate until the very end so I might start writing but usually will never finish it. I also get a lot of inspiration from finding out how people think and why. I enjoy reading horror stories and finding out why people get scarred helps to make a more creepy story. In all I get inspiration from a lot of things, but another way for me is to listen to my teacher Ms.James.

Reading Response 1: Ashfall

In the story so far Alex, the main character, is in his hometown of Cedar Falls, Iowa when an explosion happened. He fights the ash from the supervolcano in Yellowstone goes off and sends the states near it into chaos. Alex then finds himself heading off to Warren, Illinois to find his family and make sure that they are all right.

I like the book a lot so far. It has action in the book and is very exciting. I reccomond people read this book if they like stories of apacolypes, expecially one that can really happen.
